We offer a pleasant learning environment with modern and comfortable facilities

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) provides an excellent environment for study during and after class. Our teachers are well trained in the use of technology and how best to use it for the teaching of English.

In the ILC:  ILC

  • 2 computer laboratories with broadband Internet access and TVs for DVD viewing
  • a graded readers, audio book and DVD movie library
  • a state-of-the-art colour copier for students use in printing, copying and scanning personal, non-class related, documents.  Students can choose to take a SELC Copy Card and then put credit on the card to use the copier when they wish.  The standard copy/print fee is 10c per page.
  • video production equipment
  • a librarian and teachers on duty to help and advise

Self-Access is supervised afternoon study, between 3:00 – 4:45pm, Monday to Friday. Students have access to the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) and can use computers, listening facilities, borrow books and audio readers, watch DVDs and do their own study/homework. There is a teacher available to help students who have any questions.

The computer laboratories are available for student use before class (8:00 – 9:00) at break time (10:30 – 11:00), lunchtime (12:30 – 1:30) and after class (3:00 – 4:45). Students are free to use the computers at these times without a booking. Students may also access the internet using their own lap-top computers and SELC’s Wi-fi connection.

There are 2 student rooms at SELC with: Student_Room

  • hot and cold drink machines
  • snack machines
  • student mail collection boxes
  • travel information display stands

SELC is an authorised TOEIC Test Centre and we offer regular test dates. SELC students can prepare for the test in our TOEIC/TOEFL elective class and then register and pay at Student Reception to sit the test right here at SELC.

Student Reception is available to assist students during their stay at SELC:

Social Activities:

  • Make enquiries and payment for Kookaburra Club activities and things to do in Sydney
  • Get a copy of the monthly social program
  • Borrow sports equipment

General Information:

  • Get maps of Bondi Junction and Sydney, bus and train lines, and how to get to the DIAC office
  • General enquiries, e.g. Consulates in Sydney, doctors/dentists, etc
  • Tax File Number (TFN) information
  • Get International Student Cards
  • Pick up parcels
  • Jobs Board enquiries
  • Collect Medibank cards
