Time really goes fast! I have done the first term’s study in the ICTHM, and have now started my second term. I was also busy working in the Hyatt hotel during last Christmas holiday. I’m really happy with my life here and have adjusted really well.

When I first came to Australia, my English was not good. So I had some problems communicating with people.

In the first and second months at SELC, I worried about my English and about whether or not I would improve quickly. Language is really the most important thing here.

With the help of all the SELC teachers and staff, I made a lot of improvement and at the end I passed the entrance test at The International College of Management, Sydney. I was so happy. Then, I moved to Manly and began my study at ICTHM. Manly is such a beautiful place, particularly Manly Beach. The great view reminded me of Bondi Beach.

But I met a difficulty again when I started to study in the college. Studying in the college is really different to studying in the language centre. Most of these lecturers are Australians and they speak fast, so I worried about my English again. And a lot of my classmates are from Norway. They are also good at speaking English so I felt that I needed to improve my English more.

When I began studying in Term 1, I had some problems about how to study, because it is a totally different education system from in China, but I studied hard and kept going. After some weeks and getting some good marks, my worries were less and less. Then, I started having enough confidence to study in the college and make friends with my schoolmates. I love this college. Everything is all right. Before this time, I had considered for a long time my choice of majoring in hospitality. I am a shy boy, not good at talking and making friends with other people and socialising. Also, my English was a problem so I worried that I couldn’t speak to guests very well.

I had just graduated from senior high school where I studied science, but now I chose to study management. Could I do it well? I thought about these problems a lot in my mind and heart, because it is really a very important thing to decide my career and life in the future.

I believe I have made a good choice now. After working in the Hyatt hotel, I have much more feeling that it’s really good for me. This is the first time that I have really got a lot of work experience from this job, and I am very happy. I also feel lucky that I can work there because it is a so elegant and has a good reputation as a 5-star hotel around the world.

I will continue to study hard and keep going. I believe I will have a good future in Australia and when I go back to Shanghai. China has experienced great changes in recent years, particularly in Shanghai, which is a big international city. It will host EXPO in 2010, and Beijing will hold the Olympic games in 2008. The hospitality industry has just begun in China. I believe it was a good decision for me to choose Australia to improve my English do hospitality studies.
