Matthias studied in our FCE Cambridge Test Preparation course, went on Cambridge Test Preparation Excursions, and sat the CAE exam.

I am standing outside Hilary and Kim’s classroom and I look through the window at Kim teaching her new class. I am waiting for her to say hello.

About 15 months have passed since I left SELC and watching her and being at SELC again brings back a lot of memories.

I remember my first day when everybody was waiting inside SELC…

From that day on I made a lot of friends from different countries and learnt a lot about different cultures. It was so exciting to find out how people live in Brazil, what the Japanese do in their spare time and what the Argentinians like to cook. I still keep in touch with some of them and I hope our friendship will last forever.

Making friends is the main thing I remember about SELC. The other thing is all the fun we had in school. There wasn’t a day when we weren’t laughing in the classroom, at least the days that I was at school! Of course on some days I was just too tired to get up or I preferred to go to the beach. But I never missed school because of school itself. Even the grammar lessons weren’t too bad. It was the best school time I’ve had in my long school experience.

Besides the normal school lessons we also did lots of fun activities. Once, we cooked with the class in school and the Brazilians made Caipirinha. The best I’ve ever drunk! The best trip I went on during the 3 months at SELC was to Port Stephens with the Cambridge class. It was a great party…….and Peter, Kim and all the other teachers were quite exhausted after this trip. Nobody would believe they were teachers (there still exists some naughty pictures of those days!).

I have so many great memories of my time at SELC. The most important thing that I took with me and always will was the experience of being away from home. To be alone in a country I didn’t know, with a language I didn’t speak fluently, is the best thing that ever happened to me. After this time in Sydney I have been so much more open-minded, and I know this will help me in every area of my life. I am delighted that I had the chance to study at SELC.
