“The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. ANZAC day is a day to commemorate the lives that were lost during the war. ANZAC day is an anniversary on the 25th of April every year.

The Australian and the New Zealand troops have been trained in Egypt by the British Empire in 1914. In the year 1915 the battle took place in Gallipoli in modern day Turkey.

After 8 months of bloody fight, around 10.000 Australian and New Zealanders soldiers were killed.

Nowadays, on the 25th of April we honour the soldiers who sacrificed their live in the war. However, on this day not only the victims of the WOI are commemorated, but also victims of other wars and conflicts. During this anniversary Australia organises marches, ceremonies, sports activities and games.”

“The spirit of ANZAC recognises the qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice which were demonstrated at the Gallipoli landing.”

“Typical ANZAC day service contains the following features: Introduction, hymn, prayer, recitation, a period of silence and National Anthem, and the Australian flag is flow at half/mast until midday and “the last post”.

Many people play game of “two-up”. This is a gambling game played wing two coins. It became the soldier’s favourite game during the war. This form of gambling is usually illegal in many Australian states.”

“ANZAC Day, its most important Australian’s day. Australians commemorates the landed of the Australian and New Zeeland forces leaded and planning by Winston Churchill. It was the first time that European Australian and Australian native fought together for the same reason.

The national day ANZA it’s been commemorated since 1920 for both country NZ and AUS, use this day to pay tribute to all the death from the AUS and NZ soldiers who were killed in the first and 2nd World war.”

“ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corps and his spirit means strength and courage but , above all, it means loyalty to your comrades and friends. It is the identity of both nations. In this day the whole nation remembers Australian soldiers who served and died in all wars and conflict.

Even though the campaign was not successful, the spirit of the fallen soldiers seems to be still alive and brings to the Australian and NZ citizens a powerful legacy.

ANZAC day become official on 1927 with the down service which was held at the Sydney Cenotaph, a monument erected in honour of died people.”

“I very happy to have chosen SELC for a second time. First time I took lessons at Bondi and this second time in the City one. It’s been a great experience studying here. Teachers are always willing to listen you, pushing you to speak so you can develop your communication skills (I believe that for most of the students, this is the most difficult task, me included!!).
Another positive thing is that you have different teachers within the week, so you receive different approaches depending on the teacher..! You also have a large library in which you can choose from a magazine up to a DVD. I’d definitely recommend anyone to join SELC to learn or improve his/her English.
Last tip: You could get an excellent coffee from the students that are practicing for Barista at a very low price. This is another good reason why I’m so pleased for having chosen SELC.”

I wish to say a few words about my SELC experience. First of all, thanks to SELC staff for the good response and feedback you’ve been giving me over the period of 6 months. This combined with the great professionalism of all teachers and friendly attitude and atmosphere gave me a brilliant result in my English language skill.

I’ve also met a lot of friends and had a great time with them, as all students did, I supposed. I acquired confidence in speaking and good lexical and grammar skills. I liked both Bondi and City campuses: big, bright facilities with fast access to the internet, café with cheap and good (at the end of each month) coffee and libraries.

It’s a great place to study, make new friends and even to have a rest. Teachers Kathy, Ruth, Rom, Rosemary and Jay, thank you for this experience and continuous assistance to improve my English – I will always remember you!

I’m an Italian student. I’ve studied at the SELC city campus for four months. I started the course at pre-intermediate level and I finished at upper-intermediate.

The school isn’t very big, with just a few students. The level in the class is distributed sufficiently and usually without many students from the same country.

The lessons are very useful, interesting and never boring. They consisted in three parts: grammar, listening and speaking.

I’ve spent a long period there so I changed teachers many times. All of them are very professional while they are teaching but you can also have a relationship with them outside the school.

Another good thing is that the school organizes a lot of extra activities which you can enjoy during the week, like cruise parties, snorkelling, skydiving, surf lessons and many other things.

I really enjoyed this period and I recommend this school, you’ll have a lot of fun learning English!

This Australia Day was my first one here in Sydney and I celebrated it with friends at one of the harbour beaches. My feelings about it were very nice because I could see a lot of people enjoying together one of the most important days for their country and it was a pleasure to enjoy it with them.

For me, loving your country is very important and Australian people do it very enthusiastically. The people enjoy their country, enjoy the beaches, the beautiful summer and the most important thing – they do it all together like ‘true blue’ Australians.

Every country should have a special day to spend time with the people they love, doing whatever they like while enjoying the country they call home.

Wherever I am in the future I’ll always remember January 26th as the special day for this country which I enjoyed so much.

When I was deciding where I’d go to study I was deciding between Canada and Australia. For me both are very interesting and beautiful countries and it was my dream to visit one of them. Finally I chose Australia – actually the main reason was for its nicer weather.

When I came here it was a totally different life for me; beautiful countryside, friendly people and ocean with perfect weather. This is Australia. I’m very happy that I can be here, in spite of the fact that I miss my family and friends. I’ve had a lot of experiences in Australia and I hope that I’ll have more.

When I saw how people celebrated Australia Day it was very nice and different from in my country. People were smiling, wearing clothes with lettering: “I love Australia”, carrying Australian flags and so on. In fact this day didn’t mean anything to me but it was nice to see how people enjoyed this day. I spent the day with my friends on the beach and we didn’t know about Australia Day, but I’m sure that I’ll never forget it. I like this country and I can’t believe that my dream came true.
