SELC 25th Anniversary Events
This year, as many of you will already know, SELC is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. We are organising a number of events and activities to mark this exciting landmark in our school’s history. After all, it has been 25 years of professionalism, high standards in teaching and student services – the SELC recipe for success – and the celebrations have already begun!
1. SELC’s 25 MUST-DO Activities
SELC’s social activities program is definitely another highlight in our Silver Jubilee year, either with our Kookaburra club or with Social Activities Coordinator Bert’s extra activities. It was natural, then, for us to compile these activities in a guide book for the students, with rewards once they have done those activities.
The book offers 50 suggestions for activities, each of them worth a certain number of points. Students need 15 points to start earning prizes and once they have completed activities worth 25 points, they are competing for three big prizes every month.
In addition, every month SELC will be running a photo competition with the activities suggested in the SELC 25 MUST-DO ACTIVITIES BOOK
2. 25th Anniversary Celebration Program of Events
January – 25th Anniversary Student Party & Australiana Quiz Competition
On the 15th January, we held our ‘25th Anniversary Student Party’. Almost 350 people, including students and staff, attended the party, which was held at The Eastern Hotel, in Bondi Junction. One of our teachers, Shaun, DJ’ed all night. The party highlights were the dazzling performances of CAPOEIRA and HIP HOP dancing, which produced lively and noisy participation from the audience.

In January, we held an ’Australiana Quiz Competition’. We wanted to know how well our students know Oz! Questions in the quiz included geography, politics, the arts, nature and current affairs. The winning pair was rewarded with an i-Pod + i-Tunes card.

February - SELC’s Got Talent
In February, students took part in a talent contest, ‘SELC’s Got Talent’, excerpts from which you can see on the SELC YouTube site. Even one of our staff joined in with his very own magic trick!

March – Treasure Hunt
In March came the fiercely contested ‘Treasure Hunt’. SELC built on the tradition of the Easter Egg Hunt and extended it beyond SELC, challenging the students to find and/or photograph objects and places in Bondi Junction. Almost 50 students took part and all were rewarded with pizzas and refreshments, while the 3 groups of winners walked away with hampers of Easter goodies!
