Sports Activities

Australians love sport.  With our open spaces and great climate it is no wonder that sport makes up such a large part of the national cuture.

At SELC we have many teachers that love sport and there are lots of sporting activities for you to join.  Below are the main activities we offer but if there is anything else you would like to try e.g. skydiving, scubadiving, kayaking, bushwalking, skiing etc just ask and if we can’t organise it ourselves we will put you in contact with the people that can.

Football (Soccer)

SELC is part of the English Language Schools Association (ELSA) Football Competition.  We always field a strong team with talented students from throughout Europe, Asia and of course Brasil and have a proud tradition of success.  Our last major triumph was is 2008 when we won the knock out Cup Competition.  We train Wednesdays and play Fridays at Queens Park, which is a 10 minute walk from SELC.  Check out the ELSA website for more information and come and be part of the SELC team.

Volleyball

From September to May we play volleyball every Friday afternoon on Tamarama Beach.  It’s the perfect way to relax and enjoy the sunshine, sand and salt water after a week of study.  Tamarama is the next beach along the coast from Bondi and both are a short bus ride or 15 minute walk from SELC.

Surfing

From September to May SELC regularly organises group surfing lessons for students at Bondi Beach.  We provide you with a board and wetsuit so all you need is to be ready to have some fun and give it a go.  The cost is around $55 depending on how many students join the group and this is cheaper than you will find anywhere else.  SELC also organises, through local surf companies, weekend surf trips to beautiful spots outside Sydney.

Table Tennis

SELC has a table tennis table in our second floor student room and we regularly organise competitions with prizes for the winners of the men’s and women’s competitions

Squash/Tennis

Some SELC staff are keen squash and tennis players and are always happy to organise a game on Friday afternoons if students are interested.  We usually play tennis at the picturesque Cooper Park Tennis Courts, set amongst the trees and only a 10 minute walk from SELC.
